The Price is Right

with Larry Emdur

Australia, Nine Network, 2003-2005

A revival of the eariler 1993-98 version, also helmed by Emdur. Initially it ran with the same weekday half-hour format as its previous version, complete with Double Bullseye as a showcase playoff and a single-player least-to-most showcase challenge.

In order to counterprogram Deal or No Deal on the Seven Network, TPIR expanded to an hour in 2004, with four pricing games and two Big Wheel Showcase Showdowns; the two Showdown winners would face off in the Showcase Playoff (Double Bullseye) with the winner going to the new “Mega Showcase”.

To one-up Deal or No Deal, the Mega Showcase included a half-million dollar condominium on the Sunshine Coast including eight other prizes that contestants would have to list least to most expensive. A cash buyout would be offered after certain price reveals to tempt players away from going all the way. Three people won the Mega Showcase; Joanne Segeviano’s win of $664,667 held the Price is Right world record until Adam Rose’s US $1,153,908 win three years later.

The show returned to a half-hour format in May 2005, and the “Mega Showcase” was downsized to the “Monster Showcase”, where the condo was replaced by a car with $100,000 in the trunk. The show was canceled a few months later.
