Danger Price

One of three “multiprizers” to be introduced in the wake of TPIR’s expansion to an hour, alongside Poker Game and One Right Price.

Four prizes are shown along with a “Danger Price”. One of those four prizes is the Danger Price; one at a time the contestant must select a prize they believe is NOT the Danger Price. If they can make three selections without hitting the Danger Price, they win all four prizes.

Danger Price was created to be a quick alternative to Poker Game and Race Game, two games that also offer four prizes.

A game setup for 'Danger Price' featuring a contestant beside an electric bike, with a washer/dryer, sewing machine, and 4K smart TV visible. The 'Danger Price' is displayed as $2067.

Yvette can win FOUR fabulous prizes! A color TV, a set of luggage, a tandem bike, and a stereo!

And Yvette’s game is Danger Price!

(Pardon the GSN graphic.)

Today’s Danger Price is $308. If Yvette picks a prize that is $308, the game is over and she loses. Check out that TPIR pirate eyepatch!

Yvette’s first choice? The color TV.

Originally, prices were revealed via a Clock Game-esque chromakey effect on the board.

The TV is $500! A safe pick.

Yvette wants the bike for her second choice…

…also a safe pick!

One to go! Between the luggage and the stereo, which one is NOT $308?

Somebody in the audience is saying the luggage, and Yvette agrees…

AWWW! The TPIR pirate wins today.

Anitra confirms that the stereo was, indeed, not $308.

The Danger Price board was moved from the turntable to center stage after a year, possibly to make it easier for the contestant to look at the prizes.

The reveals also had prize names added to them. By 1977, somebody had invented a portable Jacuzzi whirlpool bath… will wonders never cease?

Hey! It’s season tickets to ALL FOUR pro sports teams in Los Angeles! Baseball, Hockey, Football, and Basketball!

By the 1980 the prize reveals have all been bunched together to get one clean shot of the choices.

Rule of thumb: more home games in a season = higher price for season tickets! Unfortunately, Kristen picked the Raiders when she should have picked the Dodgers.

Huh? Why is Bob taking the contestant to one of the doors?

Wow! It’s the NEW Danger Price!

Art director Jack Hart helped give the game a complete remodel. Prices are now revealed by the touch of a spring-loaded button as each octagon spins around.

The rules are the same… avoid the price that’s $350.

…she’s a winner!

By the mid 80’s, stop sign backdrops had been added behind the prizes.

This playing must be seen to be believed! First, Holly trips on the exercise machine she’s modeling. It wasn’t meant to be used while wearing heels!

Then, the dinette refuses to reveal even with Holly and Janice pounding on it…

And when May, the contestant, asks a question about the dishwasher, Bob prematurely assumed she wanted to reveal the dishwasher’s price. Only quick thinking from Janice saved the game!

Lindy has to choose between the Armoire or the Stemware…

…she thinks the stemware, but she checks with the audience to make sure…

Yep, her friends are miming the drinking glasses…

She’s got it! Cheers, Lindy!

S38, Mar 10 2010

It’s Drew’s 500th episode, and every game has a “500” theme.

Either the camcorder or the computer is $500 and should be avoided!

S45, Feb 20 2017

Flashing lights and sirens were added to the display to give the board and prize displays to give a bit of a more “dangerous” feel.

S41, Apr 17 2013

Oops! Looks like those springs were wound a little too tight!

Kyle gives Rob a thank-you hug for the extra help!

S47, Dec 28 2018

Regina, a Los Angeles police officer, had once pulled Drew over in his Mini Cooper for running a stop sign…

…of course her game ends up being Danger Price! Regina and Drew must be fated to meet near objects shaped like stop signs with sirens and flashing lights.

In 2023, the octagonal backdrops were changed to a lighting effect in order to accommodate the tighter backstage space at Haven Studios.
