Grand Game
A long-running cash game, played for $10,000. The second ever game on The Price is Right to be played for cash, after Punch a Bunch.
Six grocery items are shown, along with a “target price”. Four products are under the target price, and two are over. One at a time, the contestant picks a product they believe to be under the target; each time they do, the contestant’s prize winnings multiply by 10, from $1 to $10 to $100 to $1,000. Picking one of the two products over the target price ends the game.
Once the contestant has picked three of the four products under the target price, the contestant can quit with their $1,000, or risk it all on picking the final product for an final all-or-nothing gamble for $10,000.
Grand Game is one of the most frequently played cash games on TPIR, and one of its most beloved.

Pauline gave Bob a great big hug coming up onstage, and Bob felt like she bruised his rib. Bob makes Pauline promise not to hurt him when she sees what she’s playing for.

“If it’s a car, I’ll kill you!”

Pauline is playing for $10,000 in cash! Bob stands at a safe distance while she cheers.

But Pauline will have to start the game with just one dollar.

Today’s target price is $1.09.
Four of these six products are priced below $1.09 and will add a “0” to Pauline’s winnings. Two are priced above $1.09 and will end the game.

Bob asks Pauline to pick her first item, and she says the popcorn must be less than $1.09.

She’s right!

She gets moved up to $10 for her correct guess.

Her next guess is the Palmolive soap, which moves her up to $100…

…followed by the bowl freshener, which nets her $1,000.

Now Bob tempts her. Pauline can take her $1,000 and sit down, or she can attempt to pick the final product under $1.09. If she’s wrong, she loses everything.

Pauline decides to risk it all… and she agrees with the audience yelling for her to pick the yams.

Before Bob can reveal the price, Pauline interjects “Let me move back, Bob, I might hurt you!”

WATCH OUT, BOB!

Pauline goes down in Price is Right history as the first–and most infamous–$10,000 Grand Game winner!

Poor Linda. She became the first known contestant to lose on her first pick, and win only ONE dollar!

This is Suzanne’s third show, and from the audience she’s already seen two people lose it all from the audience, so she chose to bail with $1,000. In the early 80’s, $1,000 was worth more than most One Bids… but $10,000 was worth more than most cars!

It’s the 23rd season premiere, and Sharon’s bet it all on the Lean Pockets being worth less than $2.60…

…and she’s right!

What on earth is a circular saw doing in Grand Game?

The Doug Davidson version did not use grocery products, so games like Grand Game used small prizes worth $10-$100. Today’s target price is $60.

Oops! The price for Mrs. Buttersworth syrup accidentally fell open when the game was revealed!

Bob taps the syrup, and asks with a twinkle in his eye, “Do you see anything that you think might be less than three dollars?”

“The honey!” replies Sean. An astounded Bob confirms, “You’re taking the honey?”

In fact, Sean picks three items under $3.00 that aren’t the syrup!

Bob, sure that Sean will take his automatic win, asks him to touch the final product. The crowd is chanting “SYRUP! SYRUP!”

And Sean wanders over to the… CEREAL?

The audience is going into conniptions!

Finally, the crowd talks him into picking the syrup. Bob stops Sean before he can walk offstage. “When we revealed this game, didn’t you see that the price was hanging down?”

“I thought it was already picked!” Bob bellows, “By WHOM?”

Ryan’s Price is Right journey began at 4:30 AM when he arrived first in line for TPIR’s 10,000th episode.

He was called, won his way up onstage, and because today every game has a “10” theme…

…was shocked beyond belief after he won $100,000! (Thanks to Ryan for the photo.)
