Safe Crackers

A quick game featuring one of the largest sets seen on The Price is Right.

An enormous “safe” is opened revealing two prizes within, a large prize, and a smaller one worth $100-$999. The safe is locked, and the contestant must guess the combination, which is the price of the smaller prize. The three digits in the price are provided, and the digits do not repeat. Getting the correct combination opens the safe and wins both prizes!

To balance out the other longer, more elaborate games being introduced during TPIR’s first hourlong season, Safe Crackers was added as a fifth quick game where contestants lock in one decision. The introduction of Safe Crackers reduced the times it was necessary to play Double Prices, Range Game, Most Expensive, Clock Game, or One Right Price more than once per week.

In December 2024, the game disappeared from the rotation and hasn’t been seen since.

What’s behind the door? A prize package so valuable, it has to be kept inside a safe!

Carolyn can win this lovely armoire!

And a pair of rocking chairs! A total prize package worth $2,811!

But that’s the last look you’ll get as Anitra locks the safe! To win, Carolyn will have to guess the combination…

…and Bob explains that the three-digit combination is the price of the rocking chairs, which contains a 1, a 3, and a 6.

Carolyn dials in a 3 for the first digit.

She eventually settles on $361 for a price of the rocking chairs.

Bob has Carolyn spin the wheel to lock it in…

…and Carolyn tugs on the handle, but the door stays firmly locked!

Bob reveals the price was actually $316. A pair of prizes (like two rockers) usually means an even number.

Originally, the famous Pink Panther saxophone theme played as the game was revealed and contestants tried to crack the safe.

The $670 Wii helped Domus crack the safe, winning both that and the car…

…but Drew tempts him. He can risk it all and attempt to dial in the car’s price for a million dollar bonus, but if he’s wrong, he’ll lose everything.

Domus decides not to risk it. He would have guessed the car was $32,000; good thing he quit!
