Temptation
A second revision of Double Digits, played for a car and four other prizes.
A car is shown, along with four other “gifts”. Each “gift” has two unique digits in the price, and the contestant must decide which is the next digit in the price of the car. (For example, a $599 gift would mean a choice between either 5 or 9.)
After all four gifts are shown, and the contestant’s prediction of the car’s price is filled in, they must decide whether to keep all the “gifts” and give up on the car, or to risk everything on their car price. If they risk it and every digit in the car’s price matches their guess, they win the car AND all four prizes, but if even one mistake is made, they lose everything!
These days, the gifts in Temptation are usually worth thousands of dollars, making it tough to decide whether to bail out or go for the car. Temptation is among most difficult car games in active rotation, but the high risk and reward involved make it worth watching.

…if she makes wise choices when faced with Temptation!

Lynn, vacationing from Idaho, gets four gifts to welcome her to California. The first gift is a car seat…

…and it’s $35. Either the 3 or the 5 will be the first number in the price of the car.

Lynn says the 3 is the first digit, and Bob puts her guess on the board to keep track.

Her second gift? A $70 calculator… and Lynn chooses to put the 7 on the board.

Now we’re talking! A $499 cabinet sink! Lynn keeps the 4…

And of the 1 or 0 in this $100 watch, Lynn decides to end the car’s price with 0.

Bob has offered Lynn $704 in gifts. She can take them back to Idaho, no questions asked. Or she can risk everything, hoping the car is actually $3,790…

Lynn’s choosing to risk it all and go for it!

Bob, a master of suspense, slow-rolls the reveal on every digit. She’s gotten the first three right… all she needs is the zero to win the car…

…AND SHE GOT IT! Lynn’s won the car and all four prizes! $4,494 is a huge haul for 1975!

When Temptation debuted, some three-digit prizes had three choices. Eventually they were only used for the (usually obvious) first digit, or phased out entirely.

Charlene bailed with $1,398 of gifts, but Bob insisted on seeing if she was right anyways. Did she make a mistake by bailing?

Whew! She got the last digit wrong, and bailing out was the right move!

Heather went for the car… but the last digit got stuck when Bob tried to reveal it!

Heather takes matters into her own hands and bangs on the board several times to see her win!

The famous fishbowl of cash! For occasions when you can’t find a gift with specific numbers. Today it’s worth $366!

The board got a pink paint job in 1988, but a paint job won’t stop Bob from teasing the contestant with the final reveal!

When 5-digit cars became permanent, the first digit was given free and revealed by default.

Christina bailed with the prizes… but she had four of the five numbers right. Do you suppose they would have repeated digits for the last two numbers?

Nope! Enjoy Maui, Christina!

Take $4,042 worth of gifts, or risk it all for the Chevy HHR?

AWWWW! Josephine bailed when she had everything right! Easily the most painful bailout ever seen in this game.

“I want the car… but my daughter is learning to drive, and I know she’ll wreck it. I’m taking EVERYTHING HERE! She likes music, so I’ll give her the turntable.”

“Sorry, Sydney, you lousy driver! You don’t get a car, you don’t get cash… you’ll get a turntable with TWO albums! Enjoy ’em!”

Would you take $13,000 worth of prizes… or RISK THEM ALL for a chance at winning a Maserati?

The audience is screaming “GO FOR IT”, but Samantha’s dad is saying to bail!

Samantha doesn’t think the crowd would steer her wrong… she’s going for it!

AND SHE GOT IT!!!!

Samantha’s won almost $100,000! The biggest Temptation winner ever!
