Ten Chances

The first car game on The Price is Right to be played for a prize “package”. Played for a two-digit prize, a three-digit prize… and a car!

One at a time, the contestant must guess all three prices with Ten “Chances” to write a price on a card on the game board. They must win a smaller prize before going on to a bigger one. As a hint, each prize’s scrambled digits are shown, along with one extra digit.

Ten Chances has a great buildup as each chance ticks down. It’s one of the games that can get even the most cool-headed viewers and audience members to shout advice at the contestant trying to puzzle it out.

Loyal viewers know that there has been one key trick to the game, a seemingly obvious hidden rule behind the prices that many contestants can’t figure out… but we won’t spoil it here! Can YOU figure it out?

A Price is Right contestant stands excitedly beside a game board labeled '10 CHANCES', featuring spaces for three prizes: a heating pad, balance boards, and a car.

Jerome can win three wonderful prizes! A slow cooker and a color TV! Wait, that’s only two…

AND…how about a Chevy Vega Hatchback?

Jerome will have Ten Chances to win all three prizes! He’ll have to nail all of three prices exactly.

The price of the Slow Cooker has two of these three digits.

Jerome says it’s $35… and he’s right! First try!

On to the Color TV! Jerome tries $640…

Nope! The buzzer sounds, and the boards slide down. He’ll have to try again.

It takes him four chances. Five chances left to win the car…

Four digits in the price of the car… but which four?

Last chance… Jerome studies his previous guesses, wondering what he hasn’t tried yet…

His wife is yelling advice…

…and Jerome gets it on the last chance! What a finish!
